Have you ever seen a “flying monobloc” chair?
An ultralight is like a glider with a motor.. well, not all, but most are.
There are many types of ultralight planes. When you visit the Angeles Flying Club in Pampanga, you’ll see a good variety of them.
This one below is called the “flying monobloc”, simply because it’s like a plastic(monobloc) chair with wings.
Those who have flown on the “flying monobloc” found it scary at first because when you look down, you’ll be looking straight down at the ground.
Seating capacity is often 2 passengers, either seating beside each other or in line.
Some ultralights have been designed to have vintage looks.
Since the Angeles Flying Club is a club. These planes are owned by hobbyists. Most of them are foreigners who fell in love with the Philippines and decided to stay here.
These hobbyists do love their crafts. They assemble it on their own and do their own maintenance work.
Ultralights can stay up in the air for around 30 minutes. They can be modified to carry more fuel tanks for extended flights.
These planes cost at least 2 million Pesos (US$40,000). The good planes would cost aroun 4 million Pesos (US$80,000). There’s no local manufacturer so everything has to be imported.
We were told that there are ultralights that can carry up to 4 passengers and can carry enough fuel to bring you to Boracay. Imagine, you can go to Boracay anytime you want!? Anyone here wants to chip in?

Sometimes its called “Flying Lawn Mover” I took one – QuickSilver Ultralight and did a Cross country flight from Gen Santos City in Mindanao to Laoag, Ilocus North in 12 days. Mar 1998.
It made the govt realized it was a safe machine to fly… so sport flying in the philippines was born.
wanna try this!
Hi Sir John!
Thanks for visiting my site.
Yeah, it really does sound like a lawn mower too! Hahaha!
1998, wow, that was a long time back. I assume technology have further improved the safety of these fliers.
I hope to fly with you soon. I’m curious about people’s feedback that you’ve got crazy flying skills!
